The 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman has come out just shortly after the debut of the 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster. The Cayman S and the 718 Cayman will make their first appearance at the Auto Show in Beijing, and similar to the roadster, they will get novel turbocharged flat-four engines, replacing the flat-six ones in the earlier models. The excellent news is that the 2017 model 718 Cayman will be less expensive than the Boxster for the first time.
Since the introduction of the first generation Cayman in 2005, it has been more costly than its roadster complement, but it has been more dominant, as well. For the model year 2017, each model is less than that of the corresponding Boxster by $2100. However, the power output of both the new model 718 Cayman and the Boxster remains the same. The Cayman will be powered by the 2.0-liter capacity flat-four engine, whereas a 2.5-liter capacity flat-four engine will power the 2017 Cayman S trims.
2017 Porsche Cayman Changes, Exterior
The external design of the next gen Cayman will be similar to that of Porsche Boxster under its waist. The new version 718 Cayman comes outfitted with a bit broader front part with a fresh bumper, broader air intakes, restyled slenderer daylight running lamps, and a reformed middle-mounted grille. The new-fangled vehicle also comes outfitted with innovative bi-xenon headlights of Porsche, plus the discretionary units with four-stage daylight running lamps.
When observed from the side, the new version 718 Cayman features an analogous shape, similar to that of its forerunner, but it features pioneering character stripes over and under the side intakes, revised doorknobs, lacking recess covers and bulkier side skirts. It also comes equipped with fresh side mirrors and 19-inch diameter alloy wheels as standard and 20-inch diameter alloy wheels as an option.
At the rear, it acquires the most impressive tweaks.
The back face comes outfitted with revamped taillights and deck top, analogous to those of the Boxster. The tail lamps come outfitted with the innovative 3D LEDs of Porsche with four-step brake lights and get a black narrow piece with “Porsche” inscription beefier side skirts between them. Other outside changes comprise 718 Cayman emblems, a modified diffuser with a rectangular exhaust tube for the base version and a pair of spherical outlets for the S version.
The redesigned Cayman 2017 would ride on a tuned framework that employs stiffer coils, stabilizers, and modified shock absorbers. The steering is 10 % extra direct and improves its nimbleness. The new-fangled vehicle also gains from greater cornering solidity, owing to the adjusted back wheels, which are a half-inch wider than before.
When comes to brakes, the new Porsche Cayman 2017 comes outfitted with 13-inch front disc brakes and 11.7-inch rear disc brakes.
2017 Porsche 718 Cayman Interior
The inside design is also identical to that of the Boxster, with the unlimited headspace with a drop-top. Updates within the cabin are less inspiring, but now, the coupe comes equipped with a reworked dashboard with fresh air conditioning vents, a revised instrument bunch, and a restyled steering wheel derived from that of the Porsche 911 model. Some of the technical upgrades comprise acoustic interfaces, a typical Porsche Communication Management configuration with cellular phone connectivity and an 110W Sound Package Plus.
As an option, buyers can include the Connect component with extensions for their smartphones, like Porsche Car Connect, USB port, and the Apple CarPlay. Other striking features available on the option roll include a direction-finding unit amid voice control and a Connect Plus element for access to a wide-ranging compilation of online services. Of course, the purchasers will have access to a wide-ranging diversity of adjustment options and upholstery combinations, as well.

The base trim comes outfitted with a powertrain with the capacity of 2.0 liters. This powertrain produces the highest power of 300 horses and the highest twist of 280 lbs per foot. This is 35 horses and 74 lbs per foot in excess of those of the earlier model. Through this powertrain, the new-fangled vehicle also gets enhanced acceleration that makes it reach from 0-60 mph velocity from the static mode in 4.9 seconds with the six-rate manual transmission, 4.7 seconds with the PDK transmission and 4.5 seconds with the Sports Chrono Package and PDK transmission. The maximum velocity is 170 mph, which is 5 mph in excess of that of the former model.
